It’s time for
a new kind
of healthcare.

What to Expect

Your first new patient visit will be unlike most doctors’ visits.

You and your provider will spend about an hour together.  Prior to your visit, you will fill out an extensive online questionnaire asking questions ranging from sleep, stress, bowel movements and what you eat to where you live and how you cook your food.

Feel free to bring loved ones or friends who are involved in your health care to your appointment.

On your first visit, expect a discussion before a thorough physical exam. With the information gathered, together you and your provider will come up with a plan tailored to you.

This Wellness Plan may include labs, diet changes, and nutritional supplements. After your visit, your provider will type that plan and send it to you through a secure patient portal.

In several weeks, you and your provider will meet again by phone, telemedicine or in person to evaluate your progress and review labs. Adjustments to your Wellness Plan will occur at that time.

The frequency of subsequent follow up visits depends on the complexity of the issues we are addressing. Some people need to have regular labs monitored and discussed; some people visit every month, 6 months, or a year.

Frequently
Asked
Questions

Do you accept insurance?

We do not file insurance. However, you can submit your receipts for “out of network” coverage on your own and your insurance company may be able to reimburse you.

Are you seeing patients in person or via telemedicine due to Covid?

We are available to meet either way. You can read about our Covid policies here.

Is Functional Medicine about taking supplements?

Functional Medicine is about finding the root cause of disease. In our modern world with high stress, daily exposure to toxins and poor quality foods, we are not getting the basic nutrients that our bodies and brains need. Often the root cause of disease is lack of critical nutrients, which can be reversed with the right amount of the right nutrient in the right form. For this reason, we often make suggestions of supplements you may want to consider.

Does Functional Medicine always recommend diets?

It is not about diets, it is about a healthy lifestyle.

Certainly, the Standard American Diet (SAD), full of processed foods, sugar, unhealthy fats and preservatives is not healthy. Eating healthy, organic, Non-GMO, unprocessed food is important to good health. But it is also important to eat the right food for your body. For example, some people are sensitive to gluten (a wheat protein) or caseine (a milk protein) and these should be avoided to optimize one’s health.  Some people that have an unhealthy intestinal system can develop sensitivities to food they eat frequently.
